Momentum Alerts

Momentum Alerts are available as a stand-alone subscription or they are available as part of All Access Pass. Momentum Alerts are not included with MarketBeat Daily Premium. Momentum Alerts are short-term trading opportunities identified using trading momentum, market sentiment, and specific financial triggers. Learn More on Momentum Alerts

Momentum alerts are short-term trading opportunities identified using trading momentum, market sentiment, and specific financial triggers. Therefore, there is not a specific frequency or schedule for the alerts; it depends on market activity. Expect to receive 3 to 5 trading ideas each month. The alerts are sent out at 10:00 AM ET when available.

MarketBeat's Momentum Alerts uses more than two dozen algorithmic factors and technical indicators to identify stocks that are poised for near-term growth. Some events that may place a stock on the Momentum Alert list include beating earnings estimates, increasing a dividend, multiple positive analyst recommendations, announcing a buyback or a stock split, or a significant increase in the positivity of news about a stock.

A higher score means more positive indicators, however, there is not a specific scale for the scores. Stocks are ranked from highest to lowest score daily, those that cross a defined threshold get sent out.

What's important to recognize about the Momentum Alert recommendations is that they are short term picks based on what's been happening in the news and market events surrounding that stock. They are really a short-term momentum play (e.g., investors may keep buying this stock-based on the good news of the stock and favorable market events it has had recently.)

The Wall Street consensus ratings on MarketBeat's website are more long-term buy and hold recommendations. Wall Street analysts typically forecast prices a year out, which makes them a different kind of recommendation.

While we can't guarantee that every trade will be a success, some of our winning trades have appreciated 5-15% in as little as seven days. You can view the performance of recent recommendations here.

MarketBeat Data

MarketBeat uses the average return on investment of a research firm's "buy" and "strong buy" recommendations over the last five years to determine a firm's rating. The firms with the best-performing recommendations receive a five-star rating. Firms that have issued fewer than ten tracked research notes in the last five years will not be ranked.

MarketBeat makes use of more than thirty different data sources to compile its ratings database. Many brokers report their ratings to MarketBeat directly. We also track equities research notes using various private data-feeds and public media mentions. MarketBeat keeps track of more than 125,000 ratings changes each year and offers the most comprehensive coverage of stock ratings available.

The gap of time between when a research note is published and when it's broadly available online can vary from broker to broker. Because we make use of dozens of data-sources, we can generally report on ratings before they are broadly recognized by the market and before they are widely reported in the financial news media.

Yes. There is a link in each day’s edition of MarketBeat Daily Premium that will enable you to download a copy of that day’s data to Microsoft Excel, which you can use for your own research purposes. If you purchase MarketBeat All Access, you can export up to the last six months of analysts' ratings, dividends, insider trades, and earnings announcements.

Our MarketRank rates every stock on 5 unique categories: Analyst's Opinion, Community Ranking, Dividend Strength, Company Ownership, and Earnings and Valuation. Each category is weighed between 1 and 5 with a combined score for the entire company. Investors can look at specific categories that they care the most about or the overall rank for each company.

All companies listed on MarketBeat.com have their rank updated in real-time as category data changes throughout the trading day. This provides investors with up to the minute information, right when they need it.
